THE ROCKET harmoniously combines two musical worlds – the Swedish Svante Söderqvist Trio, including pianist Adam Forkelid and drummer Calle Rasmusson, together with Estonian-Swedish accordion experimenter Tuulikki Bartosik.

After the success of their debut album “Arrival” in 2020, the trio aimed to explore new sounds for the upcoming album, naturally leading them to collaborate with Tuulikki. United by their love for Swedish traditional music and a shared enthusiasm for new musical avenues, creating music together felt remarkably smooth.

Guiding the group as its natural leader, Svante Söderqvist brings forth his unique classical-inspired jazz techniques on both double bass and cello, occasionally blending in wordless singing. Enriching the ensemble with soulful and melodic compositions, Svante sets the stage for the group’s musical journey.

Tuulikki enhances the sonic landscape with her expressive accordion playing, featuring subtle electronic effects that seamlessly merge as a natural fifth voice within the acoustic ensemble.

Reflecting on the encounter, Tuulikki shares, “When I first heard Svante’s trio play live, I was captivated by their incredible musicality, tight ensemble, and, most importantly, the warm sound that spoke to me from the heart. It reminded me of my own musical journey, always exploring and curious.”

Together, these four versatile musicians craft a dynamic experience, navigating an open and adaptable collaboration between the acoustic and electronic, the old and the new, the familiar and the unfamiliar. Their exploration of this captivating musical landscape is eagerly anticipated, and they can’t wait to share this journey with an international audience.

This collaboration not only intertwines diverse cultures around the Baltic Sea but also celebrates a shared love for Nordic nature. Their commitment to the environment is evident in their eco-friendly travel choices, opting for land transport over flying.

“From time to time, CDs arrive that immediately touch your heart. This is one such example. Svante Söderqvist not only creates beautiful and moving music, but also expresses his passionate opinions on political and climate issues through it.”

“It’s a sense that everyone plays as if it were a matter of life, both in the livelier songs and in the calmer ones. Melodic and captivating jazz on one of the year’s finest records.”
